New Years Goals

Every year we make a bunch of resolutions, most about getting into shape and losing weight. Well this year I decided to make a set of goals instead.

1. Keep up with my blog. I want to try and post at least one post a week or at least 52 posts for the year. I like writing on here and doing photos and really want to try and get in the habit of consistently posting.
2. Take and finish an Alison course. My boyfriend recently found this site for me. They have a bunch of free classes, including digital photography course from Harvard. And many when you finish if you pass the text with 80% or better they send you a diploma certificate for it. I love to learn things and expand my skills.
3. Communicate better. Especially with my SL family, but also with people in RL. I am pretty introverted and will hold things in and let things slide without saying anything. Recently that led to a real tough spot and emotional breakdown. My parents and I talked and decided we all needed to work to be sure to communicate and listen to each other.
4. Learn and improve my skills with dance tools and shows/videos. I have been working on it for a few months but there is still a lot I want to learn and get better at. I see so many amazing shows and videos, I am not aiming to be like any of them but want to learn the skills so I can show my own uniqueness.
5. Get more in touch with my spiritual side. Mainly I really need to learn to ground and center myself. I believe it will really help with my emotional state. I have beliefs, yeah, but don’t think of them or practice them much. I want to change that, because it gave me a sense of peace and stability I lack nowadays.
6. Buy less Lindens. I am creative and like building/making things. I just need to make and sell more on marketplace and maybe inworld. Curb my shopaholic-ism. Will be hard to do, I am used to just buying Lindens when I want stuff and buying a lot. However, RL has demands of its own and those really need to come first, despite how cheap I say it is in comparison. Suppose it is good that I’m not a shopaholic in RL as well. Way cheaper to be one in SL. Think I will start doing some freelance photography again too. I have worked at studios before but they kept me busy all the time and I have family and other hobbies I want to continue to work on while also learning new skills.

I am sure I could think of many others, but I feel these are the major ones I really want to achieve this year. I also feel like they are achievable and think that’s important for goals, otherwise we end up feeling down and seems like that makes it even harder to work towards achieving them later.

I saw one of my favorite stores had a few new things out and they looked so comfy I used them for my pictures. Been fighting a bug this week so comfy clothing and music was used a lot. The video this week is in a different language, but has English captions and I am in love with it. I have probably listened to it like a million times today. ♥

Bookworm

This week I decided to do a meme from one of my favorite bloggers, Strawberry Singh. Meme link ♥

Are you a bookworm? – Yes, I listen to audibles at work and read another book during breaks and at home. I usually wind down by reading before bed.

Which do you prefer: hardcover, paperback or electronic? – While i still have a large library of print books, I love how portable electronic ones are. I can have hundreds of books on my phone to read so when I finish one, I always have others. Saves me from having to stash books in my work locker and the car or always having 2 books on me.

Which book is your favorite? – Rather than a single book, Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series is my favorite. I have read them multiple times and continue to love them.

Which children’s book is your favorite? – The Dragon and the Unicorn by Lynne Cherry

What’s the last book you’ve read? – Read – Jasmin Eve’s Walker Saga (I’m on book 3). Listened to The Breakers Series by Edward W Robertson.

Name your top five favorite writers: – Anne McCaffrey, Naomi Novik, Mercedes Lackey, Piers Anthony, and Tamora Pierce.

Name a book that had a strong impact on you: – Any and all of the Anne McCaffrey books. I started reading them early in middle school and they made me love reading and writing stories of my own.

Favorite & least favorite book genres? – Favorite is fantasy and most of its sub-genres. Least, probably westerns and such. I don’t really read those.

Favorite & least favorite book-to-movie adaptions? – Least favorite was Eragon, I didn’t feel it followed the books quite right. Favorite is The Host, as one of my favorite books I love that the movie followed it almost exactly.

Have you ever bought a book based on the cover alone? – Yup. If its good cover art and looks interesting I will generally read the back and likely buy it.

Where do you usually buy your books? – Print ones in used stores and sometimes barnes and nobles. Electronic from amazon.

Do you go to the library? – I used to all the time. But since I’ve switched to mostly digital I borrow using amazons unlimited kindle program. Its still lending and def costs less than if I was buying all the books I read.

How many books do you own? – Print a couple hundred at least. Digital at least another 600ish. Audible another 50-100.

If you were to write a book about Second Life, which topic would you focus on? – Well I’m not a professional at much of anything since I am a dabbler. Maybe a book on the many things you can do and learn in Secondlife.

Music’s Influence

Hi, my name’s Wyona and I’m a music addict. ♥ No lie, I listen to music as much as I can. As I’m working on things, to help my mood, for dance troupe, even when I sleep. I will wake up in the middle of the night to no music and wake up just enough to start Pandora back up and go back to sleep. I also love all kinds from new age and classical to industrial and techno. I’m not a huge fan of metal, country, blues and them but even in those genres I have songs I like.

I also love anime as you might guess from my cutesy or kawaii style. So for this post I wanted to share my love of both as well as pose a question. What would you do if one of the things you were passionate about became banned and against the law? Me, with music and reading, I would likely bootleg and hoard and have to have music and books despite it. I tend to be introverted and bad with emotions, so they have a habit of sometimes overwhelming me. Music is my lifeline in those times. It helps ground me and lift my mood as well as help me feel more energetic. When I clean house or do other things I hate music is always there to help it go quicker and make it more bearable ( I can’t say enjoyable lol).

An anime that is a bit older but addresses this question perfect (and I’ve seen it multiple times now) is AKB0048. It’s based in a universe where humans have expanded into the universe but some planted have banned music and arts. Now, we can’t say for sure the worlds they show would be how it would look for sure but I think they did a decent job based on past history and how humans have responded to authority banning or limiting our music and arts. The towns this group of idols go to visit are gray and gloomy with smog and food lines where everyone looks miserable. Despite the danger to the girls, they travel to planets to see their fans even if that planet is under an entertainment ban, and many times these concerts help inspire change.

For me, this very much reflects how I think my life would be without music or art. Without them what would I have to do to recharge my mood and energy? To pick me up when I am feeling sad? Or even to calm me when I am angry? I turn to both music and art (mainly through photography and dance choreography on SL) to help me during those times. My only other real outlet is books. But if they ban entertainment of music and art, when would that expand to the fantasy and sci-fi books I love so much? Or even to other fiction books?

Another reason I love the anime, and other dance and music oriented shows and movies, is it shows the growth and struggles the members of the group have to go through as well. Three of the newer trainees in the group come from a banned entertainment planet themselves.

When I was shopping marketplace I came across this dress and it reminded me of some of the outfits I’ve seen idols wearing in anime and I thought it would would work great for this post. Sorry there is only one picture, I had a couple more but I really didn’t like how they turned out. I want to experiment with lighting more and see if I can get better, sometimes the shadows just make the photo unappealing to me when I go to edit. Also, I have chosen to share a couple videos of AKB0048. I was unable to find many with english subs of good quality. The longer one I did find though, I love the songs, the lyrics are very touching to me. Also there are so many other great anime or musicals or even shows based around dance and music that I love, I just chose this one because of how perfect it fit with the main thing I wanted to talk about. ♥ Next time, a book meme!!

My Story + Bonus

One sunny day a young couple was walking through the forest when they heard a beautiful melody. They followed the sound to a cave and inside found a unicorn resting on a soft mossy floor. The woman had recently discovered she could not have children and been devastated. She knelt before the unicorn and with tears in her eyes begged for a child of their own.

The unicorn lowered its head to touch its horn to the moss in front of it. The young couple gasped as a beautiful purple flower grew from the moss. It grew until it was at eye level with the kneeling woman and it’s giant blossom opened to reveal a small toddler with light purple hair, pointed ears and a wispy set of tiny wings. Her eyes slowly opened to show one blue and one purple eye. The woman wept and after a glance at the unicorn who nodded its head she reached in and pulled the little girl from the flower.

The girl wrapped her little arms tight around the woman’s neck and snuggled in to fall back asleep. The couple thanked the unicorn quietly over and over before taking the little girl home.

 

A year later the girl and her parents have learned many things together. She doesn’t age like normal children, always remaining around 4 years of age. However she can chose to become a teen using her fae magic for short periods of time. Her magic is unreliable and sometimes backfires.

One day as she was being passed between all of her extended family and parents her magic turned everyone who held her hair purple like hers. Recently she used her magic to turn teen and something happened with her magic and she is unable to turn back to her toddler form for the time being.

Ok, so bonus story and pic because it was just too funny. I was over visiting my aunts and uncle and nana showing them my new look. They loved it and were joking about daddy needing to beat boys off with a stick. Then a few minutes later, out of the blue, nana passes me a 12 gauge pump shotgun. O.O I was a little alarmed at this not being a big weapons person.

Later while me and momma were shopping with the Christmas money nana gave me we went to Epic’s store for the 50% off sale and we came across this kawaii chainsaw. Sent nana a gyazo snapshot and of course the response was “Yes! You need that!” So I got it and here’s a pic to show you how cute it is! It even has sparkles coming off it and the blade edge moves. And that’s a sneak peak at how crazy my family is. ♥

New Beginnings

I have been on Second Life since Nov 2009 on one avatar or another. I had a blog on my old main avatar but decided to start fresh when I changed to playing a kid/teen avatar. Second Life has been a big creative outlet for me since I started. In my first week I was tearing neko tails apart to figure out how they were made. Since then I have learned and dabbled with editing objects, creating, clothing and accessories, poses, as well as a little bit about scripts. I was also a photographer for a couple of studios. My most recent outlet is choreography and set building for the dance team I started with my family. I also love to take pictures and write stories, which is why I love to blog.

I chose to do blogging because its a good way of helping me to continue to take more polished photos as well as exercising my love of writing and storytelling. I won’t be doing a fashion or look of the day blog but rather a variety of posts. I will always post a photo or two to go along with my posts. Other things you can expect to see are stories, talk about music or music videos, dance, posts about sims and performances I visit, a variety of topics that interest me and cute clothing and accessories and pandas.

I hope you enjoy my posts and please feel free to comment or share your input on my topics. And please understand, while I will include credits for photos I may not always have links. I know it is nice to have them and will do my best, but my focus on this blog is not the fashion, it’s my love of photography and stories as well as other outlets and topics. ♥
